Waxing/Sugaring/Threading

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Threading?

Threading is another method of hair removal for the face, done by twisting a cotton thread around and removing the hairs individually. This is a great method for those who have sensitive skin or aren’t a good candidate for waxing.

Can I get waxed?

Most likely, yes. But let’s ask a few questions first!

  • Are you on any antibiotics or have you been in the last 30 days?

  • Do you use any retinol/retinA/anti-aging products?

  • Are you on any kind of acne medications or topical steroids?

  • Have you gone tanning/spray tanning or gotten sunburnt in the last three days?

If you said yes to any of these, then no. These are all situations that will compromise your skin to a point where wax would do further damage and potentially cause “lifting”. But luckily, threading is the perfect alternative!

What is Sugaring and how is it different from waxing?

Sugaring is another method of hair removal, primarily for the body, where a paste made up of sugar, lemon juice, and water is applied to the skin against the hair growth, and removed in the direction of hair growth.

Sugar also doesn't contain rosins, can grab shorter hairs than wax, and doesn’t adhere to the skin. This all results in less irritation and sometimes, less pain.

Is sugaring better than waxing?

It really comes down to personal preference! Both remove the hair at the root, which is the goal with either removal method. You may still experience temporary side effects like slight irritation, itchiness, or redness after your sugar like you would with waxing as well, especially if your skin is very sensitive, but there are typically fewer side effects overall.

Can I get a Brazilian while on my period or while I’m pregnant?

Yes! You will be more physically sensitive during this time, but there’s no reason we can’t still do the service. If you’re on your period, please wear a tampon or menstrual cup to your appointment.

If you’re pregnant, please book accordingly if you’re nearing your due date to be a week or slightly more out so baby can try to hold off from making an appearance in the studio!

It’s the night before my body waxing appointment! How should I prep?

Thanks for asking! Treat yourself for a nice warm shower or bath, and after about 10 minutes of letting the warm water soften your skin up, use your favorite physical exfoliant (a rough-ish glove or sugar scrub) to gently scrub whatever area you’re going to get waxed. This is going to remove that layer of dead skin cells trapping any little hairs that otherwise wouldn't be able to be grabbed by the wax!

Yay, my Brazilian is done! What happens now? 👀

BEST FEELING EVER! Here’s the breakdown of your next couple weeks:

Week 1: Omg this is the thing ever, I’m so cleaned up and soft down there! Beauty is pain and it paid off!

Week 2: A few little hairs are starting to pop back through, but they’re so thin and soft, I barely notice!

Week 3: Starting to notice more growth has come back, but definitely less hair than I had last time! Did I make my appointment yet? (Ideally, we will have gotten you rebooked at your last appointment’s checkout)

Week 4-5: Time to get waxed/sugared again! Let’s go get snatched (:

How often do I have to come in for my services?

Everyone is a little different but the average timing based on our hair cycles are:

Brows: Every 3-4 weeks

Brazilians/Legs/Arms/Underarms: Every 4-5 weeks, and always at least a 1-2 days before your event or vacation!

With body waxing especially, the more consistent you are with regularly scheduled waxes, the thinner the hairs will become over time and the less they will grow back. This will result in your appointments eventually getting spaced out slightly more as time goes on.
